The first time I went to a lounge alone, I almost left twice before I sat down. I felt like everyone was looking at me. Nobody was. Six months later, solo nights are some of my favorite nights out — and Fuego is where I learned how to do them.
The Bar Is Your Friend
Sit at the bar. Always. The bartenders will talk to you if you want, leave you alone if you don't, and you'll naturally be in conversation range of other regulars without it being forced.
Bring Something — But Not Your Phone
A book. A notebook. A real one. Something that signals you're here intentionally, not killing time. The phone makes you look like you're hiding. The book makes you look like you're thinking.
Order Your Hookah
Yes, you can order a hookah for one. Nobody cares. The staff will set it up for you exactly the same way they set up a six-person session.
Stay Long Enough to Settle
The first 20 minutes are awkward. The next two hours aren't. If you're going to do a solo night, commit to it. Leave when you want to — not when you feel like you should.
Some of my best Tampa nights have been alone at the Fuego bar on a Tuesday. Try it.
